The Vicious Garden is the debut psychological thriller from Genevieve Marcel, a writer and existential sex therapist whose work has spent years examining the psychology of desire, intimacy and the self people construct to survive in relationships. That same precision, the attention to what gets performed and what gets concealed, to how devotion can function as a form of control, to the exact point where a person stops recognizing themselves inside their own life, now turns toward fiction. The result is a novel less interested in who did what than in why two people arrived at the only ending either of them could still stand to live with.
